Frequently Asked Questions
(click question for answer)How long will it take to get my house plans?
It depends on our current workload. We usually have many plans on the go and can’t foresee what our schedule will be like at any given time. Please email drafting(at)wmdyck.com or phone us at 204-388-4727 for an approximate timeframe.
How much will the drawings cost?
There are several factors that influence the cost of the drawings. A few of the items are:
- Type of house (single story, 2 story, bi-level, etc.)
- Attached garage (number of bays, bonus room)
- Site plan
- Engineer stamp
Should I buy the appliances before or after I order the cabinets?
You don’t have to buy the appliances right away, but you do need to know the sizes and type of appliances because we need to design around them and/or give you the proper cabinets with the appliances in mind.
Do your drawings meet code?
We ensure all of our drawings meet or exceed the standards set by National Building Code of Canada. We also strive to stay up to date with all code amendments.
How do I get a structural engineer’s stamp?
We work together with a structural engineer to provide you with a stamp on the drawings to save you the effort of finding one and then bringing a copy of your plans for them to stamp.
What kind of buildings can you draw?
We can draw nearly every configuration/style of house including bungalow, bi-level, 2 story, split-level, multi family, detached garage, cottage and addition/renovation. We are also capable of handling some small commercial projects.
Do I get a materials quote with my plans?
We work closely with our Package Sales and Building Materials departments to help them provide you with a detailed materials quote at no cost.
How many copies of my plans will I get?
We provide 8 copies of the plans at no charge. This is generally enough to provide the appropriate trades people and town office with a copy. However, extra copies can be purchased should you need more.
Can I change the plans after they are drawn?
We try to get as much information regarding your design and building options so that changes won’t be necessary. If, however, you decide to change something after the plans are complete, we can revise your drawings for a reasonable hourly fee.
What information will be on the drawings?
Our drawings include all relevant information needed for permit application and for construction. Some of the information you will find on the drawings is:
- Floor plan(s)
- Foundation plan
- Roof layout
- Building & structural details.
